HOW I KEEP MY BLONDE FRESH
Ever since dying my hair platinum, I always get questions as to how I keep it up and if I have any tips/tricks to keeping the blonde fresh. Every time I get my hair done, I want to preserve the gorgeous colour for as long as I can so I do have a couple tips I’ve picked up along the way.
1. Don’t wash it too often
I think this should just be a hair tip in general. It seems the less I wash my hair the healthier and brighter it is. I try to only wash my hair on shoot days which equals to like 2 times a week. I wish I could make it less but my hair can get super greasy after like the the fourth day. All the washing and drying etc. can take a toll on your locks and their bright colour!
2. Use a blue shampoo
When the day comes that I do need to wash my hair, I like to alternate my regular shampoo with Matrix total results Brass Off shampoo. I’ve been using this shampoo ever since I first went platinum in October and it is one of my favourites – it’s super saturated which I love! The blue tones in the shampoo help to off-set any orange/brass tones in your hair helping you get that bright fresh blonde look. When I do use the Brass Off shampoo I like to leave it on for a few minutes in the shower to really saturate my hair and get rid of any orange tones. Since it does work super well I only use it maybe once every 1-2 weeks so one bottle will last you a long time!
3. Use a colour protectant
Every time after I wash my hair I use a colour protectant. Since I loved the Matrix shampoo so much I also started using their Brass Off leave in smoothing cream to help both protect my colour and smooth any frizzies.
4. Don’t use too much heat on your hair
When I first went platinum, I asked my hair dresser if he had any tips for keeping the blonde fresh and one of his suggestions was to not use too much heat on your hair. I think we always forget that things like blow drying, straightening, and curling are HEAT. Has anyone ever left something on top of a heater and it goes all discoloured? I once accidentally left a white bathing suit top beside the heater in our bedroom and it turned orange. Well essentially the same can happen with your hair. I try to at least steer clear from blow drying and only on shoot days I’ll curl my hair but with minimal heat.
4. Use a heat protectant
If you must blow-dry/straighten/curl your hair, definitely use a heat protectant – always good to have that buffer between the heat and your actual hair.
