WHY I TAKE COLLAGEN EVERY DAY + HOW I MAKE A COLLAGEN COFFEE

Let me start by saying, when I first heard of collagen, the idea was pretty disgusting. Fish scales?! No thank you. However the more I read about the benefits the more into it I got and now I have collagen every single day. Anything I can do to improve my health (I’m still trying to get Danny on the bandwagon, but for sure sneak it into his smoothies in the morning ;P).

I’ve been taking collagen for about a year now – the initial purpose was for the hair health aspect. I was hard on the hair regrowth/resurrection train and heard this could help so I was all for it. I use Genuine Health’s marine clean collagen because it’s sustainably and consciously sourced from wild-caught fish and made from fish skins that are by-products of other industries and would otherwise be thrown away. I can also pick it up locally at Nature’s Fare which is amazing because I hate venturing into the city for these types of products.

Other than for hair health, collagen helps to promote brain, heart, and gut health, as well as slow the aging process to help prevent aging and wrinkles (hello I will do anything for this). I find this along with my daily vitamins and water really help to keep my skin, hair, and nails in check.

Most of the time I incorporate my collagen into my coffee because somehow in my head it’s like adding creamer and helps to make my coffee that much more smooth and creamy. To make my collagen coffee I add one scoop to 2 shots of espresso and a dash of organic agave syrup and whisk together – I use my matcha whisk because it’s what works the best to dissolve any lumps. If I’m having it in the morning I like my coffee hot so I’ll steam some unsweetened vanilla almond milk and add to the collagen mix and top with cinnamon. If I’m making an iced coffee I’ll top the collagen mix with ice and fill with almond milk.

If I’m not in the mood for coffee or just don’t have time, I’ll figure out another way to add it into my diet, more often it’s in a post gym protein shake.
